National Preparedness Month September is National Preparedness month. It is not a fun subject to think about however, it is very important to be prepared for disaster. Organizing your life includes organizing for the unknown: emergencies and disasters. This includes my family; we have taken some steps to be prepared but we have more work to do! Here are some websites to help you and your family be prepared http://www.ready.gov/ and for your pets http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/disaster-preparedness. Locate your local emergency management office. Here is the link for Oconee County Georgia http://www.oconeecounty.com/index.php/departments/emergency-management and for Clarke County Georgia https://www.athensclarkecounty.com/143/Emergency-Management-Office . Schedule a time to review these sites, make a plan, don’t delay or put-it-off it is too important. My family has compiled a resource list of important contacts, accounts, copy of our Will, and Health Care Directive and sent it to a sibling that is the Executor of our Will. We are going to do an inventory of our possessions using a video recorder. It is an essential to have this recording for insurance claims. This recording should be updated annually and stored in the cloud. We will use our Drop Box account. My sister and brother-in-law lost the majority of their home to California fires years ago. They did not have an inventory of their possessions. They were surprised and shocked when the insurance company asked them to list all their spices. That is how detailed some insurance companies are with claims. I hope you and your family are safe.
